What We Walked Into

July is not usually the first month people think about rodents, but we still get a steady number of rodent calls during the summer across the California Coast and Bay Area.

A few weeks ago, we got a call from a homeowner who had been hearing scratching sounds in the garage late at night. At first, they thought it might be something outside.

Then they found a few droppings near a storage shelf and realized something was probably getting in.

The home was clean and well maintained. There was no obvious damage and nothing that looked like a major issue from the start.

That is pretty common with rodents. The first signs are usually small: a few droppings, a sound at night, a chewed box, or a gap that does not seem important until you look closer.

We also pointed out a few storage and landscaping changes that could help reduce future activity.

The point was not just to deal with what was happening inside the garage. The point was to understand how the rodents were getting there in the first place.

That is what makes the difference with long-term prevention.

The Outcome

A few weeks later, the homeowner told us the scratching sounds had stopped completely.

No new droppings were showing up in the garage, and the storage areas where the activity first appeared stayed clear.

The biggest change was peace of mind.

They no longer felt like they had to check the garage every morning or wonder what they would find when opening a storage box.

That is usually the real goal with rodent prevention. The space starts to feel normal again.

None of these steps take much effort, but they can make a big difference when they are done consistently.
